Additionally, the Bureau coordinates student services throughout the state and participates in multiple inter-agency efforts designed to strengthen the quality and variety of services available to eligible students with disabilities.

Job Description

This position is responsible for programming for students with the most significant cognitive disability and the alternate assessment based on alternate academic achievement standards. This position will provide information, technical assistance, and support related to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) to parents, families and stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collects and disseminates essential information to aid in policy formulation and administrative decision-making related to students with disabilities.
  • Develops, produces, or revises technical assistance documents, and other reports, resource manuals, and correspondence to foster the development and implementation of quality educational programs.
  • Collaborates with schools, districts, and Bureau discretionary project staff in planning, development, and evaluation of programs for the improvement of instruction; and provides technical assistance to schools and district level staff, and instructional personnel regarding the needs of students with disabilities and their families.
  • Participates in program reviews as needed for compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Provides support in the determination of critical student outcomes and in the accommodations and/or modifications and assessment strategies, which are appropriate for students with disabilities.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and interprets student data regarding the implications for improving student outcomes.
  • Maintains files, responds to phone calls, Corrflow, electronic mail, and answers correspondence, providing technical assistance related to students with the most significant cognitive disability.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the State Performance Plan (SPP) and participates as a team leader or team member in activities associated with specific SPP indicators.
  • Plans and coordinates statewide educational conferences, meetings institutes, training, and workshops.
  • Participates in local, state, and national professional organizations for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities.
  • Works with subject area specialists in the Department of Education and university training programs to develop and implement policies affecting the education of students with disabilities.
  • Coordinates the activities of various task forces in regard to issues and topics on the education of students with disabilities; presents issues and areas of concern to the State Advisory Panel; and advises administrators in the Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services on possible issues affecting the statewide system.
  • Will assist other sections as related to their expertise.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Knowledge of the techniques for planning, implementing, or evaluating educational programs.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to deal effectively with a variety of people.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three years of professional experience working with students with disabilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively including verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to travel (list estimated amount of travel for the year)
  • Experience in training staff
  • Experience with public speaking
  • Ability to provide work samples of writing skills for grammar, editing and communication review.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Preferences will be given to applicants who have excellent writing skills, presentation experience and experience working with students with the most significant cognitive disability.

LEAVE INFORMATION: (CS)

    • Annual Leave - All full-time Career Service employees filling established positions earn annual leave in varying increments dependent upon years of creditable service. Employees with up to 5 years of creditable service earn 8.667 hours per month, with 5 to 10 years earn 10.833 hours per month and those with over 10 years of service earn 13 hours per month. Employees in Senior Management Service and Selected Exempt Service positions are credited with 176 hours of annual leave upon appointment. In subsequent years, the annual allotment is credited on the anniversary date of the initial appointment.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
